FAQs

Here are our top 20 asked questions

We’ve answered the most common questions below. If you don’t see what you’re looking for, just get in touch, we’re always happy to help.

What time do the hikes start?

Start times and meeting locations vary depending on the experience, but are generally early in the morning to allow enough time to complete each hike. Please check the Location & Meeting Time section on the specific hike event for full details.

How fit do I need to be?

You’ll need a basic level of fitness and be comfortable being on your feet for 6+ hours over potentially rough terrain. You don’t need to be super hill-fit — many people join us with little or no hillwalking experience, which is exactly why they book a guide!

Before your hike, you’ll be asked to complete a medical waiver to confirm you understand the risks that come with outdoor activities.

What if the weather is bad?

We keep a close eye on mountain-specific weather forecasts. If conditions are looking unsafe, we’ll aim to let you know by 4pm the day before the hike (or earlier where possible).

That said, the weather can change quickly. Rain alone usually won’t stop us. If conditions worsen on the day, the guide may change the route or, if necessary, cancel the hike. If this happens, we’ll offer a new date so you can try again.

Can I attend on my own?

Absolutely! We’re all about bringing like-minded people together, so you’ll never feel out of place – many friendships start on our hikes.

Is there an age limit?

There’s no upper age limit – if you’re happy and able to take part safely, you’re very welcome.

Some hikes do allow under-18s, but they must be accompanied by a parent or guardian at all times.

Can I bring my dog?

Dogs are welcome on some of our hikes. They’ll need to be well-behaved and kept on a lead due to livestock. Please contact us to check which routes are dog-friendly.

Are there toilets on the hikes?

Some meeting points have toilets, however, availability can’t always be guaranteed.

What should I bring with me?

We’ll send a kit list after booking, but as a minimum you’ll need sturdy walking boots, waterproofs, warm layers, food, water, and a small backpack. Weather in the mountains can change quickly, so being prepared is key.

What happens if I can’t finish the hike?

We will always prioritise the safety of you and the group. If someone is struggling, we’ll assess the situation and adjust plans where possible. In rare cases, this may mean turning back or arranging a safe exit.

How big are the group sizes?

Group sizes vary by experience, but we keep numbers manageable so everyone feels supported and has a great day out.

Is food included?

Food isn’t provided unless specifically stated on the event page. Please bring enough snacks and lunch for a full day on the hike.

Is transport included?

Transport isn’t included unless stated otherwise. You’ll need to make your own way to the meeting point listed on the hike page.

What if I’m scared of heights?

Some routes involve steep ground or exposure, but this will always be clearly stated on the experience page. If you’re unsure, feel free to contact us before booking and we’ll help you choose the right hike.

Is hiking insurance required?

We recommend having personal travel or activity insurance, although it isn’t mandatory.

Can I use walking poles?

Yes, walking poles are welcome and can be very helpful, especially on longer or steeper hikes.

What happens if I arrive late?

Please aim to arrive on time. Late arrivals may not be able to join the hike, as we need to stick to schedules for safety and daylight.

Are your hikes suitable for beginners?

Many of our hikes are beginner-friendly, and each experience page clearly states the difficulty level so you know what to expect.

Can I take photos during the hike?

Of course! We encourage it – just be mindful of safety and follow your guide’s instructions in exposed areas.

Do I have to pay to join a hike?

Yes. We have built up a following around our passion of getting into the great outdoors and challenging ourselves physically and mentally. In doing so we created this group to pair up with others who have a similar interest in exploring the outdoors and in some circumstances overcoming fear. Simon & Alistair have a lot of experience of the trails planned. Our walks now carry a cost which is payablee on booking on to an event. We have done this at a nominal amount to cover our planning and also the fact that freebies tend to see drop outs at the last minute which cause issues, we can also manage numbers this way. We have priced this on the basis of you coming along with us. Whilst other groups charge, the costs are at a much higher level so we feel what we are doing is fair. Paying to go on a walk allows you to guarantee a place and also benefit from our guidancee, navigation skills and general leading. We understand this might not be for everyone which is also fine however to be a part of our events this is now a mandatory requirement as per our booking page. We are really looking forward to seeing you out there.
